Jets' Special Teams Coach Says Bobby Carpenter Got a Coach Fired

Linebacker Bobby Carpenter has never really lived up to the expectations he brought as a first-round pick out of Ohio State, but now he's being accused of costing a coach his job.

Carpenter started only three games in his four years in Dallas before being dumped to St. Louis in a "I'll take your draft bust for my draft bust" swap of Carpenter for tackle Alex Barron. He didn't even make it to the opener in St. Louis as the very thin Rams team cut him. He landed in Miami, where Bill Parcells, the coach who originally drafted him in Dallas, was in charge at the time.

Carpenter has actually started two games in Miami, but he's being asked to be a special teams player as much as anything else, and that's where the trouble had come. Miami's special teams cost the Dolphins their week four loss to the Patriots -- New England scored on a blocked punt, a blocked field goal and a kickoff return. That came a week after the Jets blocked a punt against the Dolphins.
