Brett Favre's Only Real Escape -- Playing

Brett FavreEAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- For 3 hours and 17 minutes, Brett Favre found respite from his personal storm. And even then, lightning occasionally streaked across the sky. Rain frequently pelted the Vikings and the Jets here on Monday night in New Meadowlands Stadium. It pummeled Favre.

But Favre did not mind. He has played in worse. He has dealt with worse.

On a Monday night nearly seven years ago, he tossed four touchdown passes against Oakland the day after his father died. On this Monday night, a day after his birthday, a few days after suffocating off-field turmoil began for Favre, he heaved three -- but the Jets beat the Vikings, 29-20.

It was pure torture for Favre last week when news broke that alleged he had sexually harassed a former female Jets employee. There was more lightning when the NFL revealed it is investigating the situation. Favre threw himself into this game. This became, for him, a football fantasy.
