Emma Stone Gets Silly on Spanish TV
Emma Stone continued her European press tour in support of Easy A on Thursday with a silly stop on Madrid's El Hormiguero program, which also recently welcomed The Social Network boys. Emma was solo on the show, but she's done a great deal of her promotion for her charming comedy with costar Penn Badgley for company. Penn recently split from Blake Lively, but Emma's rumored romance with Kieran Culkin appears to be going strong since he joined her to celebrate her turn as SNL's guest host last Saturday in NYC.

Big Love: When Great TV Shows Know When to End

"Canceled." It's the one word that fans never want to hear about their favorite TV shows. But what happens when it's the show's producers who decide to end the show? Well, generally, that's a good thing.
On Oct. 28, HBO announced that its polygamist drama, Big Love, will return for its fifth and final season on Jan. 16. "When we created Big Love in 2002, we had a strong conception of the journey the Henrickson family would make over the course of the series, of the story we had to tell," executive producers Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer said in a statement. "While we were in the writers' room this year shaping our fifth season, we discovered that we were approaching the culmination of that story."
The Big Love producers couldn't be more right. The fourth season of Big Love started to slip (Chloe Sevigny, one of the show's sister wives, even called it "awful") and once the Henricksons decided to announce their polygamist lifestyle to their community, well, there just wasn't much more storyline left to explore.
Wouldn't you rather the producers be selfless (it's their paychecks that will be affected!) and end a show when they know their story is winding down? After all, there are only two other fates a show can face:
Option #1: A show gets canceled prematurely. When this happens, there are two possible sub-options. A show never gets to wrap up its story, or its forced to tie up all of its loose ends in one final, rushed episode. October Road (ABC) had to conclude its story with a previously-unseen episode on their Season 2 DVD. Fans of Las Vegas (NBC) are still upset that writers weren't given the time to write a satisfying ending. Pushing Daisies tried to polish off the characters' storylines at warp speed in one abrupt final episode.
Option #2: A show gets dragged out past its prime and dies a long, slow death. This is even more depressing when it happens to a really great show. Welcome Back, Kotter tried to survive past the departure of John Travolta, which was not easy to watch. The X-Files continued on for four seasons after the film was released, and even tried to last after David Duchovny exited the show, causing the show to end on a sour note. ER lost most of its original cast and yet it still kept trying to revive patients. And current shows like Desperate Housewives, which admittedly is still drawing in huge numbers, will probably recycle storylines until the cows come home.
So, yes, what the Big Love producers are doing is the best thing they can do. Though no TV watcher ever wants to say goodbye to the characters they've known to grow and love, it sadly has to happen at some point. And what's more appropriate than a fitting goodbye? More producers should take notes from shows like Lost, Sex and the City, The Sopranos and Six Feet Under (which arguably had the best series finale ever), and finish off their shows at the right time. Though we may be sad at first, we'll thank them in the end.

Jon Stewart Speech Closes 'Rally To Restore Sanity And/Or Fear'
Comedian tells fans rally was about working together, not 'ridicule.'
By Mawuse Ziegbe
Jon Stewart speaks at the "Rally to Restore Sanity And/Or Fear"

Jon Stewart's "Rally to Restore Sanity And/Or Fear" Saturday (October 30) was a smorgasbord of the satire and send-ups of pundits, politicians and public issues Stewart's "The Daily Show" has specialized in for years. However, at the end of the three-hour event at the National Mall in Washington DC, Stewart used that same incisive humor to drive home the point that Americans aren't as crazy as the media would have us believe, and that the everyday triumphs that don't make the news are truly representative of the American people.
Stewart kicked off speech by addressing the question that was likely on many attendees and viewers minds: What exactly was the point of the rally? Stewart ventured to answer the question, suggesting, "Some of you may have seen today as a clarion call for action." He also considered the possibility of wayward tourists getting caught in fray, joking, "Clearly some of you just wanted to see the Air and Space Museum and just got royally screwed."
Then Stewart broke down the intentions of the rally, which he maintained was not simply about poking fun.
"This was not a rally to ridicule people of faith, or people of activism, or to look down our noses at the heartland or passionate argument, or to suggest that times are not difficult and that we have nothing to fear. They are and we do. But we live now in hard times, not end times," Stewart declared, to the roar of thousands of attendees swarming the site.
He went on to examine the role of the press in exacerbating conflict among Americans.
"The country's 24-hour, political pundit, perpetual, panic conflict-inator did not cause our problems. But its existence makes solving them that much harder," he said. "If we amplify everything, we hear nothing."
Stewart cautioned listeners about buying into propaganda that may obscure the real issues citizens should be tackling.
"Not being able to distinguish between real racists and Tea Party-ers, or real bigots and Juan Williams or Rick Sanchez, is an insult, not only to those people, but to the racists themselves who have put in the exhausting effort it takes to hate," Stewart said, referencing former CNN anchor Sanchez, who was booted from the network for his unsavory comments about Stewart and other Jewish Americans. "Just as the inability to distinguish terrorists from Muslims makes us less safe, not more."
Stewart maintained he feels "strangely, calmly good" because he doesn't take media portrayals at face value. Yet, he conceded he understands how certain representations can hinder honest, straightforward dialogue about significant issues.
"The image of Americans that is reflected back to us by our political and media process is false. It is us through a funhouse mirror ... the kind where you have a giant forehead and an ass shaped like a month-old pumpkin," he said. "Why would you reach across the aisle to a pumpkin-assed, forehead eyeball monster?"
Stewart said he knows that most people reach across the aisle when it matters, saying, "We work together to get things done every damn day! The only place we don't is here [points to White House] or on cable TV."
"Most Americans don't live their lives solely as Democrats, Republicans, Liberals or Conservatives. Americans live their lives more as people that are just a little bit late for something they have to do. Often something they do not want to do. But they do it. Impossible things [are accomplished] every day that are only made possible through the little reasonable compromises we all make," he said.
Referencing a screen playing footage of cars slowly inching through traffic, Stewart used the image of the highway as metaphor for how Americans make those compromises, ceding the road when necessary and recognizing that everyone is headed toward a similar goal. He also touched on the diversity of drivers on the road, noting that the cars could be steered by anyone from a mom with two kids to a "Mormon Jay-Z fan."
While Stewart opened his speech outlining the messages he wanted to relay through the rally, he closed by explaining what the event meant to him.
"Sanity has always been in the eye of the beholder," he said, "And to see you here today, and the kind of people that you are, has restored mine."

Buffalo Bills CB Terrence McGee Getting Closer to Returning
Filed under: Bills

Brian Galliford of buffalorumblings.com reported on the progress of McGee and the other injured Buffalo players Wednesday. McGee was listed as limited in practice on the team's official injury report along with linebacker Keith Ellison (knee). Offensive tackle Demetrius Bell (knee), safety Jairus Byrd (thigh) and offensive tackle Cornell Green (knee) all did not practice.
McGee has not played since Week 3 and Ellison has missed the last two games with his knee injury. In McGee's absence, Leodis McKelvin and Drayton Florence have tried to hold down the fort in the secondary and have had some problems for the 0-6 Bills. Bills coach Chan Gailey said during his Wednesday press conference that he expects McGee to be able to participate in a full practice before the week is out.
For the Chiefs, safety Reshard Langford (ankle), guard Ryan Lilja (hand) and rookie wide receiver Dexter McCluster (ankle) all were limited in practice.

Though she's yet to confirm, rumors are rampant that Mariah Carey pregnant -- and she and hubby Nick Cannon are expecting a boy. Now comes more talk that Carey became pregnant by using in vitro fertilization at a Beverly Hills clinic.
A source confirmed to E! News that the singer, 40, is being treated at the Southern California Reproductive Center; the same place where Jennifer Lopez was taken care of while pregnant with twins Max and Emme.
Once again, reps for the couple refuse to comment on the news that Carey and Cannon will be adding to their family, but we're at the point where we'd consider shopping for some baby clothes for the happy twosome. We can always return them, right?

Knowshon Moreno to See Role Among Broncos Running Backs Quickly Increase
Filed under: Broncos, AFC West
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Looking to boost productivity in Denver's running game, Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said Wednesday that running back Knowshon Moreno's role is being targeted for expansion."Knowshon is going to play a bunch," McDaniels said. "He's not a two-down player. I think the more he plays, the better he's going to be. That's what we're hopeful for."
Moreno accounted for the Broncos' only scoring highlights in last Sunday's 59-14 loss to the Raiders, turning two of his three receptions into touchdowns. He also ran 14 times for 53 yards, improving his season yards rushing to 212 in four games. Moreno missed three games earlier this season because of a strained hamstring.
McDaniels said the Broncos were keenly interested in giving Moreno more opportunities in the passing game, an interest that grew after his strong showing against the Raiders.
"He made an impact in the passing game with some of the opportunities that he had," said McDaniels. "That's something that we felt strongly since the spring. We just haven't been able to get him out there and stay with that."
Injuries from time to time have cut down on the availability for Moreno and increased playing opportunities for backups Correll Buckhalter and Laurence Maroney. But that figures to change with a bigger role for Moreno.
"We feel like he's a guy that makes plays when he has the ball in his hands," McDaniels saisd "'Buck and Laurence can do things too and they'll be there to certainly rest him and give him an opportunity to catch his breath and substitute in some different packages. Knowshon is going to play a bunch."

'Glee'-Cap: 'Rocky Horror' Comes To McKinley High
Jim lures a special guest to the MTV News lair for the Halloween episode.
By Jim Cantiello
The cast of "Glee" in the "Rocky Horror" episode on Tuesday
Photo: FOX
The McKinley High faculty and student body got swept up in the magic of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" this week, and the risqué production brought out everybody's wild side. Finn overcame his body-image issues with a half-naked stroll down the hallway, Mercedes stepped up to a lead role, and Mr. Schuester struggled with jealous rage as Emma and Carl's relationship got even more serious.
But most important, the "Rocky Horror"/ "Glee" fever spilled into the MTV Newsroom. Check out the latest star-studded musical "Glee"-cap embedded below, and sing along with Jim's new lyrics!
[Jim sings a parody of "Dammit Janet," music and original lyrics by Richard O'Brien]
[Spoken]
Hey, "Glee"?
Yes, Jim!
I've got something to say
I really loved the skillful way
You worked in "Rocky Horror" today
And kept the story moving anyway
[Singing]
He stole Schuester's girl and he's famous (Stamos!)
A dentist in which you can blame most (Stamos!)
He's driving Will nuts with his vain notes (Stamos!)
She wants to grab his hot potatoes, Stamos, Will hates you
Will makes the school play "Rocky Horror"
'Cause Emma thought it was the best
Sam plays the stud, but then it's over
Will recasts himself so he can flex
[Spoken]
Let's speed this mother up!
Aw yeah, it was "Rocky Horror Picture Show" night on "Glee," you guys. And you know what that means! With stunt episode comes stunt casting. So, on that note, ladies and gentlemen, "American Idol" winner Kris Allen!
[Kris Allen enters, sings a parody of "Hot Patootie — Bless My Soul," music and original lyrics by Richard O'Brien]
It's Halloween so you know tonight
That there are costumes and spooky lights
The school play's "Rocky Horror," Sue puts up a fight
She thinks it's inappropriate, and that ain't right!
[Jim and Kris sing together]
Sue Sylvester, why so cold?
The glee club just wants to rock and roll!
Sue Sylvester, it's getting old!
The glee club just wants to rock and roll!
Sue Sylvester, you should fold!
The glee club just wants to rock and roll!
Sue Sylvester, why so cold?
The glee club just wants to rock and roll!
[Jim spoken]
Thank you, Kris Allen! His new single is "Alright With Me!" Check it out on iTunes.
[Jim sings a parody of "Touch-A-Touch-A-Touch-A Touch Me," music and original lyrics by Richard O'Brien]
Brad was played by Finn, he couldn't win
He had to strip and he was scared
He put up some resistance, his physique lacked some fitness
Then he walked down the hallway, showed off his thickness
Schuester lost his mind to win Emma's hind
His actions shook him to the core — core core core
Mercedes gender-bended, and she sang oh so splendid
But Sue is sabotaging, out for Will's ending
[Refrain]
Watch-a watch-a watch out, "Glee"
Sue wants an Emmy
Double agent to screw "Glee"
She's always out to fight
Cancel cancel cancel "Rocky"
It's making peeps crazy
What-a what-a catastrophe
It isn't feeling right
In the end, Mr. Schuester lets the glee club perform "Rocky Horror" just once, and only for themselves. Because, face it, all those extras in the audience would be really friggin' expensive.
[Singing again]
And that was "Glee!"
What did you think of the "Rocky Horror" episode of "Glee"? Let us know in the comments!

Brian Dawkins, Andre Goodman Return to Practice for Broncos
Filed under: 49ers, Broncos, AFC West, NFC West, NFL Injuries

Dawkins (right) has missed two games since spraining his knee in the late going during an Oct. 10 game at Baltimore. Goodman has missed four of the last five games because of a quadriceps injury.
After getting an unusual off day on Monday, the team practiced on Tuesday at its Dove Valley headquarters to commence preparations for Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers in London.
The 49ers are already in London, having left following their 23-20 loss to Carolina at Charlotte. The Broncos decided to prepare for the game stateside and plan to leave for London after completing Thursday's practice.
Dawkins and Goodman will be evaluated again on Wednesday to see how their injuries responded to the rigors of practice.

Half Of Teens Report Being Bullied In New Study
Survey also finds that more than half of teens have hit someone in anger.
By Gil Kaufman
If you've ever been taunted, teased, bullied or roughed up, these statistics will not surprise you. According to the largest study of its kind ever conducted, half of all high school students admit to bullying their peers and nearly as many say they were bullied during the past year.
The study from the Josephson Institute of Ethics comes amid a flurry of stories about the sometimes-fatal consequences of bullying, spurred by the recent suicides of a number of gay teens who took their lives after harassment about their sexuality.
"If the saying 'sticks and stones will break my bones but names will never harm me' was ever true, it certainly is not so today," said Michael Josephson, founder and president of the institute, in a press release announcing the results. Josephson also pointed out the especially harsh nature of cyberbullying: "Insults, name calling, relentless teasing and malicious gossip often inflict deep and enduring pain. ... It's not only the prevalence of bullying behavior and victimization that's troublesome. The Internet has intensified the injury. What's posted on the Internet is permanent, and it spreads like a virus — there is no refuge. The difference between the impact of bullying today versus 20 years ago is the difference between getting into a fistfight and using a gun."
Previous surveys by the institute did not take cyberbullying into account, but according to the report, which interviewed more than 43,000 high-schoolers ages 15 to 18, 50 percent admit they bullied someone in the past year, while 47 percent said they had been bullied, teased or taunted in a way that seriously upset them in that same time period.
The survey respondents, from 78 public and 22 private schools, revealed other troubling trends. Almost one-third (33 percent) said violence is a big problem at their school, and one in four (24 percent) said they don't feel very safe at their school. What's worse is that the violence does not appear to be constrained to just verbal taunts, as more than half (52 percent) said they've hit a person because they were angry in the past year, 10 percent said they took a weapon to school at least once in the past year. And 16 percent admitted to having been intoxicated at school.
"The combination of bullying, a penchant toward violence when one is angry, the availability of weapons and the possibility of intoxication at school increases significantly the likelihood of retaliatory violence," Josephson said, referring parents to the Character Counts survey for information on what they can do to prevent bullying and for signs to recognize if bullying is taking place.
As stars and political figures from President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to Adam Lambert and Linkin Park's Chester Bennington speak out in the It Gets Better video series to encourage bullied teens to keep their heads up, and Brittany Snow continues to spread the word in conjunction with MTV's Love Is Louder campaign, the Josephson survey revealed troubling details about stubbornly consistent violent teen tendencies.
In one question, 21 percent of respondents admitted to mistreating someone because he or she belonged to a different group. An even higher number (23 percent) said they are prejudiced against certain groups, and 42 percent said they have used racial insults. These figures were almost identical to numbers from a 2008 survey.
To spread a message of hope to victims of bullying and harassment, join MTV, Brittany Snow and the Jed Foundation in telling the world that Love Is Louder than hate. Visit the project's Facebook page, upload videos to Your.MTV.com and use the hashtag #loveislouder on Twitter.

'Runaway' Star Selita Ebanks Recalls Her Vogue Rejection
Model-turned-actress once failed to impress editor Anna Wintour but is winning raves for her turn in Kanye West's clip.
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Sway Calloway
Selita Ebanks is riding high after the overwhelmingly positive response to her performance in Kanye West's "Runaway" film — not just from fans, but from 'Ye himself, who told MTV News' Sway that the model-turned-actress "killed it."
But the Victoria's Secret model's career hasn't been all roses and clover. When Ebanks sat down with Sway to talk about the film and where it fits in her career trajectory, she recalled her first (and last) meeting at Vogue magazine.
"I wore Timberland boots," she said. "I had on corduroy high-water flooded beige pants with a button-down plaid shirt. I was a tomboy," Ebanks explained of her first meeting at the famed glossy. "I remember walking in ... Trudy, from Vogue at the time, she looks at me startled and I didn't understand why. I was like, 'What up? Who am I here to meet?' "
Ebanks said she was told to take her jacket off and just "be herself" and she'd be fine. She was then ushered into another room.
"I walk into the office, I got maybe two steps into the room and I look and it's amazing [editor in chief] Ms. Anna Wintour. She goes [makes a dismissive wave] and dismisses me," Ebanks recalled. "Needless to say my cover did not come out, to say the least, and I have never shot Vogue magazine."
The 27-year-old beauty said that rather than hold onto any bad feelings about the incident, she took it as a valuable lesson.
"Now that I reflect back on it — and this goes back to my advice for these young women — [the lesson] is to always do your homework," she relayed. "Always be aware, don't just take people's word for it and walk into a room. ... I should've asked, 'Who am I here to see? Who will be in the room?' But this is something you live and you learn."
What did you think of Selita's "Runaway" performance? Tell us in the comments!

Anthony Gonzalez Denies Report That He Reinjured Ankle
Filed under: Colts, AFC South, NFL Injuries

Gonzalez, the Colts' wide receiver who has been out since Week 1 with a high-ankle sprain, said Monday he was aware of a report over the weekend that he had reinjured the ankle, but said as far as he knew, there was no truth to it.
"I saw that little report," Gonzalez said. "I have no idea what that is. No tweaking. Nothing. I have no idea where it came from."
Colts coach Jim Caldwell said Monday he was unaware of any such occurrence, and Gonzalez said he would be surprised if he doesn't play next Monday when the Colts host the Houston Texans.
"I'm very optimistic," he said. "I feel really good, I'll say that."
Gonzalez, a fourth-year veteran, said he received phone calls when the report surfaced.
"The guy didn't make it up -- I'm sure somebody told him," Gonzalez said. "Whoever that is told him a lie, though -- so whatever. ... I have no clue where it came from. I really have no idea. I didn't tell anybody that.

Brett Favre Tried to Call Jenn Sterger in 2009, Says Manager

The report was confirmed by Favre's business manager, Phil Reese, who told The Associated Press that the quarterback did indeed try to call Sterger. Reese declined comment when asked if there were multiple calls, but said Sterger did not answer the phone.
According to the Post's source, Favre was in New York to appear on "Joe Buck Live" and was not yet a member of the Vikings when he attempted to contact her, while Sterger was no longer employed by the Jets. Said the source: "The same number that was used to send the messages in 2008 is the same one used to call Jenn in 2009, when Favre was in New York to film [the HBO show] 'Joe Buck Live.'"
Sterger has yet to speak with the NFL about the situation, and according to Jeremy Fowler of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, will not do so if her and Favre reach a financial settlement.

Keri Hilson, Big Boi Explain Value Of Education
Stars drop by Chicago Get Schooled Youth Summit at Collins Academy High School.
By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Jeff Schneider
A young Antwan Patton planned to enter the psychology field before one pesky development derailed his ambition midway through high school: a chart-topping album.
Patton, better known as Big Boi of Outkast, revealed that he was on his way to becoming known as Dr. Patton before the teen duo's 1994 debut, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, became a speaker-thumping rap classic. However, even on the brink of changing the hip-hop game with his and Andre 3000's inventive swagger, Big Boi didn't ditch his high school degree. When MTV News caught up with the ATL lyricist at the Get Schooled Youth Summit at Chicago's Collins Academy High School, he urged others not to give up on education either.
"Before I started doing music, I was actually planning on going to school to study child psychology, but when I was in the 11th grade, we went platinum. I still finished and graduated with honors just to basically have that," he said. "You at least need to get your high school education if you don't go into a separate field where you have to go specialize [and] go to some type of university or something like that to kinda hone in on your craft. So, yeah, you need that."
Like Big Boi, Keri Hilson, who also attended the Collins event alongside MTV VJ Tim Kash, was up to a lot in high school. An avid sports head, Hilson also dabbled in — not surprisingly — creative arts such as singing and drama. The Grammy-nominated songstress said that beyond picking up on the subjects outlined in the classroom, her overall high school experience taught her how to multi-task — a skill that has appeared to serve her well in her career as a hitmaking songwriter and singer.
"I juggled a lot in high school. I was two-year co-captain of the basketball team, two years 'best offensive,' senior-year MVP, and I was in the theater. ... I was in this black history program, and I was singing the national anthem," Hilson recalled. "I was doing so much, but I had to learn balance. I had to learn priority, prioritizing my time. I think that is the key to making it through high school and life in general — knowing what's important, attacking that and executing everything."

The second season of the "Jersey Shore" is about to end Thursday night (October 21) on MTV. In anticipation of the big season finale, the cast of the show sat down on "The Early Show" Thursday morning to chat about the ups, downs and in-betweens of this season of the show. So, did they have any regrets?
"I'm glad the way I came off on the show," Pauly D shared. "They made me look exactly the way I was. There's no script. I don't really have any regrets. They make you look exactly the way you are." He added, "That's the best part about it — we're just doing what we're normally doing anyways."
Ronnie and Vinny laughed off a few drunken nights. Ronnie joked that he wasn't too proud of the "first five episodes," with Vinny adding, "I had a couple sloppy nights ... one with Angelina," who left Miami near the end of the second season.
These days the cast are certifiable celebrities. And with another season of the show wrapping up production, it seems they still haven't fully wrapped their heads around their current A-list status. "It's crazy. We can't even go get a coffee or go shopping without people freaking out," Snooki explained.
"I think it's amazing," Sammi added. "I think we're all truly blessed."
The cast said their lives are vastly different than the ones they were living before they became household names and a cultural phenomenon. "It hits you when you do morning shows, talk shows, movie awards," Ronnie said. "This is my life now. A year ago we were doing normal jobs or going to school."
Watch the season finale of "Jersey Shore" Thursday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV!

'Real Housewife' Vicki Gunvalson on Her Divorce: "We Tried"

After filing for divorce from husband Donn on Monday, The Real Housewives of Orange County's Vicki Gunvalson reveals why her marriage is ending.
"We tried," Gunvalson, 48, told UsMagazine.com. "It's just too hard on both of us. It is amicable and we want to keep this as private as possible."
The reality star also opened up about the split on her official Facebook page.
"Donn has been an important part of my life and he will continue to be," she wrote. "I would like to thank all of you for the outpouring of love and support that we have received."
The couple's marriage troubles were heavily documented on past seasons of the Bravo reality show. But the twosome (who tied the knot in 1994) did seem to be making strides, as they renewed their vows during a televised ceremony in July 2009.
The couple has no kids together, though Vicki's children from her first marriage, Michael and Briana, lived with them in their home.

Report: Brett Favre, NFL Conclude Meeting Over Jenn Sterger Matter

There's no word on what Favre was asked or what he revealed, but ESPN's Ed Werder reports that Favre and NFL Security vice president Milt Ahlerich have completed their meeting.
Deadspin.com reported that Favre sent lewd photographs to Sterger, and the NFL is investigating whether such sexual harassment occurred, and whether any of Favre's actions constitute a violation of the league's personal conduct policy.
However, Sterger has not said anything about the allegations publicly and apparently hasn't told the NFL anything privately, either. ESPN reported that Sterger's failure to cooperate could run the NFL's investigation into a "dead end."

Shannen Doherty: I Earned My Bad-Girl Rep But I've Changed

There was no question that Shannen Doherty was the ultimate bad girl of the '90s. But though the Beverly Hills, 90210 star owns up to her mistakes, she stills says she pales in comparison to today's world of misbehaving celebs.
Doherty, who had a short-lived run on last season's Dancing with the Stars, talks to Parade magazine about her new book, Badass: A Hard-Earned Guide to Living Life with Style and (the Right) Attitude and how she's getting past her mean girl persona.
"I have a rep," the 39-year-old actress says. "Did I earn it? Yeah, I did. But, after awhile you sort of try to shed that rep because you're kind of a different person. You've evolved and all of the bad things you've done in your life have brought you to a much better place."
In fact, Doherty thinks she seems innocent compared to some of this generation's headline-makers. "The irony is that, if I was doing the same stuff now, I wouldn't be getting the attention," she says. "Like I never did a sex tape. I never didn't wear panties and flash a camera. You sort of stop and go, 'Wow, it's sort of what's acceptable now.' And, then, they always have excuses. When I made a mistake, I would admit to it. These girls don't seem to see their own mistakes, much less learn from them."
Speaking of sex tapes, Doherty also dishes about her bad-boy ex-husband, Rick Salomon. "After we split, he was on those sex tapes with Paris Hilton," she says. "I'm not going to lie and say I didn't love him even though the bad times sure outweighed the good. But, like any badass, I think I've learned from my mistakes."
When it came to fellow bad girl Lindsay Lohan, Doherty was was eager to offer advice to the troubled star (whose situation she calls "horrific" and "exploitative"). "I think that it's still about having faith in yourself," she says. "You've hit some road bumps and maybe they made you fall down and you've got some gravel and asphalt in your face because things are that bad. But have faith because you can get better and you can become the woman I'm sure you want to be."
Doherty also discussed another actress she admires who started off with a bad rap: Angelina Jolie. "You see the progression that she's made as a mature woman," Doherty says. "Angelina is an inspiration."
But, Doherty hasn't completely let go of her tough side. "You can either be a bad girl in life, or you can become a badass," she says. "It means owning who you are and being compassionate and knowing when you've made a mistake and not repeating it. And, also not being afraid to kick some ass and take names."
